One of the best no doubt!

The Lion King | The Lion King

Based on the Disney movie with songs from Elton John and Tim Rice is considered the most successful of all time! The Lion King is playing since 1997 and won the Tony Award for best musical in 1998, among other nominations and awards. The musical is directed by Julie Taymor, the first woman to win a Tony Award for best direction in addition to winning another for best costume design. The show is currently featured in the Minskoff Theatre 8 sessions per week. The costumes is sensational and the scenario too, they had amazing solutions to give the effects necessary for the musical. The Stampede, the dry Lake and the scene of Mufasa in the sky are bright! You know what's going to happen, but you don't know how.

My kit from the Lion King
My kit from the Lion King

At the gift shop, a DVD with the making of it's totally worth it! It's all in english but is very cool. Buying the DVD, the bag of the Lion King won a discount and became 5 dollars, without the DVD it was more expensive. Besides you can buy the nice plastic cup with frozen lemon or strawberry to drink during the musical, at the time it was like 6 dollars if I'm not mistaken, I remember that I found it fair.

For me particularly it's hard trying to be impartial, the Lion King was my favorite movie when I was a kid, and I just LOVE all the songs. I swear watching gives you goose bumps!

Classic, with songs that we all know
Classic, with songs that we all know somehow

The Phantom of the Opera
The Phantom of the Opera

Created by the famous and award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical was developed for his wife at the time, Sarah Brightman, to sing. The musical tells the story of a young opera singer, Christine Daee, that has a mysterious singing teacher known for phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera is until today at the Majestic Theatre debuting in 9 January 1988. In 2013 celebrated the 25th anniversary and 10.400 presentations. It's the longest-running musical on Broadway and the second most successful production loosing only to the Lion King.

I love the songs from Phantom of the Opera since childhood! Even had been advised that the musical was not worth it. I know this is a very particular opinion but I was forced to agree. We went the next day to the Lion King which is a mega production full of technology. First were late, and we lost the chandelier falling ... anyway ... Who saw the film with Gerard Butler has no surprise, after all he was based on the musical. I found everything very old, in my opinion they should kind of renew the techniques used in the scenario, give an updated.

Very nice to know the history of origin of the Wicked Witch of the West

Wicked

With one of the most beautiful posters of the musicals, in my opinion, Wicked is based on a novel written by Gregory Maguire in 1995, where the author makes a retelling of the wizard of Oz. The story tells the life of the Wicked Witch of the West, before (and after) Dorothy arrives in Oz. Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch of TheNORth become's best friends, even with different personalities and point of views. In 2003 the musical debuted at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway, conquering 3 Tony Awards and breaking the box office records over records.

I was only able to watch Wicked on second trip to New York, I went because a friend, who LOVES Wicked – Thanks Karina !!! – and really insisted that I should see, that I would love it. In fact I LOVED! On our first trip to New York I bought the book, which by the way is much heavier and dark than the musical. The show has delicious songs! I listen to the soundtrack always. The possibility to know the story behind the Wicked Witch of the West is sensational, know why she became evil (in the interpretation of Gregory of course). The story humanizes the Green Witch, and reveals a dark side of the Good Witch, I thought it was really good! My only criticism is the part that she flies… the crane is very exposed… For the size of production I found flawed…

Fuerza Bruta

Also another one that I left for my second trip to New York. Fuerza Bruta is not a musical, is a great show, a party. The Fuerza Bruta was created in 2005 in Buenos Aires by Diqui James. Since 2007 it's been performing as a Off-Braodway show at the Daryl Roth Theater at the Union Square. More than 1.8 several million tickets have already been sold. A group travels the world, including in 2015 they were in SP. I went to watch it again hehehe, 'cause the Fuerza Bruta SP had things I haven't seen in New York.

It's a very different experience, starting with the fact that you get the 70min of show up and looking up! It's super visual! And their production is so incredible that you barely see things coming on the scene. Not to mention that the actors interact with the audience and you can take pictures, I highly recommend taking a nice camera because the photos that you can take are beautiful! At the end I was so blown away, the show is so different, that I had to buy the DVD to show to the rest of my family, since explain and describe would be complicated!

One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had!
One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had!

Sleep no More

The most sensational experiences I've ever had! Is very, very cool! Only who experienced knows what it is. The Off Broadway show that began in England with the company PunchdNORUNK. The play tells the story of Shakespeare, Macbeth. The show happens among the 3 floors of the Mckittrick hotel. You choose a schedule and get to roam freely through the rooms and floors, you can touch anything you want and occasionally bump into a character and choose to follow him if you want. The only condition to enter in this incredible experience is to put a mask that you can't take the whole time you are attending, and it is absolutely forbidden to speak. I recommend getting in the first hour to explore calmly all the rooms of the hotel, the play repeats in cyclic way some 4 times, so you can vary the scenes you want to watch and at the end you will have seen the play completely. Don't be alarmed, If you get lost, or if you have any problem, everywhere they have employees wearing black also masked, If I'm not mistaken they call "Stuart's" and you can call them for help. In addition the hotel has a bar where you can wait for your turn to enter since they call for number, and a terrace restaurant, but access is on the outside of the hotel and you can go whenever you want, you don't have to be on the show. The trick is to keep an eye because they always renew the seasons at the last minute.

ALADDIN

Resounding debut, MEGA praised! Has arrived causing with the flying carpet scene, all people who have seen praised a lot. From what I've seen the production is very beautiful, aesthetically super interesting . The only detail is that the play does not have the monkey ABU, but fans of IAGO the Parrot of Jafar can stay calm, He is there! If you want to take a look at the show, Click here and here, I saw on youtube and I thought it was just wonderful! The genius is incredible!! Not to mention that they didn't painted it blue and it stills AWESOME! New York hold on me!

The Book of Mormons

Hello! Anyone who has ever watched don't forget this word. Written by the same creators of the cartoon South Park, it's a musical sarcastic and ironic, In addition to melodies that end up reminding us of classic songs from other musicals. Two young Mormon missionaries are sent to a mission in Uganda. There seeing violence so close one of them begins to lose faith in the mormon religion. We didn't watch in New York, but the UNIRIO made a version here very cool! And we watched! IT WAS WONDERFUL! If you want to check this assembly “brazuca” Click here.

I want to watch, It's on my list for the next trip to New York. Based on a true story and on the movie of the same name, Kinky Boots is about the young Briton Charlie Price, that leaves the shoe factory of his family to live with his demanding girlfriend in London. After the unexpected death of his father, Charlie returns to the factory and it's up to him to find a way to keep the business alive. When he meets Lola, a drag queen, which gives Charlie the idea of creating women's shoes for men. So, the factory turns boots “eccentric” under the supervision of Charlie and Lola.

Must be cute

Matilda

I think everyone has seen that movie in the afternoon session. Anyway if you have some time to spare I would watch. Based on the classic Roald Dahl children's book with the same name, Matilda Wormwood is a bright girl who plunges in books. Matilda is overlooked by her parents who insist on calling her as a boy and consider her “stupid” for reading. Closed, but with a growing imagination and sharp mind, and with a protector of affection in his teacher Miss Honey, Matilda dreams of a better life.
