The mysterious Devil's Well

With a name beyond the controversial the Devil's Pit is the attractions of easier access and faster than we were in the Chapada Diamantina. The place has a really nice infrastructure, with attached on the side of the road, Shop, bathroom and snack bar.

Crossing the shop straight down there to pick up the trail, way this super quiet, most of the flat track, even though it's a quick and easy trail, about 15 min, people with difficulty of locomotion will have some difficulty. Pause to talk shop, the store is great, full of various items, pebbles, baskets, drinks, paintings I find it hard to believe you don't like anything there, Lucky for me, passed away by the mere fact of not having stopped to do with quiet hehehe.

The place also offers attractions such as rappelling and zip line. I confess I don't see any signs directing to such attractions. But I read in several places that they exist.

The well has one of the cooler waters of the Chapada Diamantina, When we went the Sun hadn't given a lot of the guys, so it took a bit of courage to play there. Can repair my totally natural smile in the photo below.

Because the Devil?

As we went without needed Guide Search a bit when writing this post to find the explanations of the name of the place. I found some explanations.

the environment is very quiet

The place was once used to dump the bodies of slaves who had diverted some stones from mines to buy your freedom. The vision of the massacre was nothing pretty, and so the well was baptized as well from Hell.

Another explanation for the name would be the color of its waters, extremely Red.

The third and last explanation I found was that those who fell on the throat of the devil Falls only appeared in the well the next day. So the well, came to be regarded as cursed and ended up with this name. The logical justification for that in fact is the water from there contains high concentrations of iron which would also explain the strong reddish color.

Independent of the legends that circulate the place, the well from Hell has a delicious energy, environment family and despite the cold water with the help of the Sun stays quiet to enjoy the well. As I told in other posts, We were in a time that should have been rain and fueled the waterfalls, but they were late, then the water falls were pretty weak.

The well from hell was the first place I met the Chapada, and I confess that the color of the water surprised the hell out of, I was delighted, so for more than the most amazing trail or the most fascinating of the Chapada, I have a very special affection for there.

  1. At first I would be a little skittish in diving into a well with that name. But the place is very inviting and I think at least a dive has to give. Kisses

    1. These names aren't even Lilian? But it's a cold dip and pretty hot, Furthermore, it is legal to infrastructure that goes with the whole family. =) Keep following us

    2. Just a fix , according to a study, The color of water is due to high concentration of tannin due to large amount of organic matter, there's practically no iron in the water.

  2. Good morning. This location of the photos is not the well from Hell, is the Mucugezinho. You'd have to go down a few more 15 minutes after reaching the pit of Hell. The well from hell is four times may than the Mucugezinho and the walls are much higher, not to mention the beautiful waterfall there. Too bad you don't have recorded the beauty of this wonderful site.

  3. Hello. This is not the Devil's Well, is the well of the Locker Of Mucugezinho. The Devil's Well is about 500m down the river and has a beautiful waterfall (where is the zipline).

    1. Hi Pliny,
the plates said Devil's Pit hehehe, at the time at least there was nothing talking about locker room.
I'll keep an eye on this zipline next time =)
