The Pope in Curitiba

The Woods of the Pope or Woods John Paul II was created in honor of the Pope's passage through the city of Curitiba in June 1980. The Park occupies an area of 48mil m ², where once there was a candle factory, the Park has paved trails with stones, which is great because it is not difficult to move. We went down the path until you reach a replica of a Polish village. The village is an open air museum, There is where the Memorial of Polish Immigration. Curitiba had many Polish immigrants and as Pope John Paul II also was this nationality, made this tribute. The houses that make up the village are unique to immigrants from the region of 1878, were dismantled and taken to the Park. They are built with logs of pines that are only plugin, No nail or screw is used to hold them, It's amazing!

Each House has different items within, one of them is a chapel in honor of the black Virgin of Czestochowa, patroness of Poland. Some represent as were the houses formerly inside, with furniture and other period items, others are more focused on agricultural items as if they were barns. Unfortunately it is forbidden to photograph your interiors, a shame. I've been reading including that this is due to a person who titled the place, There was the time until I couldn't photograph the external areas…radical do not?

One of the houses is a souvenir shop where you can eat typical sweets and buy craft items, I found everything very expensive. Another house housed a collection of pêssankas, hand-painted eggs, This traditional craft is extremely Poland, and aims to commemorate the Easter. These friendly little eggs can cost you Dear! I thought I'd bring a say more "industrialized" and yet was expensive!

The landscaping of the Park was designed by Roberto Burle Marx who took care with the preservation of native forests, In addition to planting new seedlings of Pines.

In the village centre has a mosaic-floored square focused on celebrations and typical events. The following is a list of annual events:

Swieconka, a blessing of food on Easter.

July, happens after the visit of Pope John Paul II.

August, has the party of Patron Saint Czestochowa.
October, celebrates the pontificate of John Paul II.

December is celebrated St. Nicholas day, that starts the Christmas parties.

According to the Web site of the Gazeta do Povo the holidays also offer typical dishes such as pierogi (cake with cream cheese filling), and sweets and cakes of Polish cuisine.

On our way out we find a statue in tribute to Pope John Paul II, I've been researching and found it was made by artist Maria Helena Chartuni, the body is made in bronze, Acrylic eyes and hands of polyester resin.

We decided to invent and take another way out instead of coming back for which we had been, so we left away from the Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) and our car, so we drove around the block but without problems giant.

Tip of Fora da Toca

If you are in a car park in MON and walk, the Park does not have parking facilities and is super close to the MON. Since parked there be sure to visit the Museum, that is super cool!
