Inhotim: a Museum of contemporary art in the open

evido to requests for friends so sweet on my delay to return to Belo Horizonte (Love you BH mostly municipal market), I decided to tell you about our trip to enjoy Inhotim.

Make a plan to visit Inhotim does not require many things. A hotel next to you can make the most of the day, car, a bottle of water, a lot of shoe leather and plenty of available!

takeoff from Santos Dumont with the beautiful day is priceless

Our initial plan was to drive. Leaving from Rio de Janeiro to Brumadinho takes about 7:00 and some 300 miles. The way we were 3 We were thinking about this possibility, It's pretty doable but at the end we'd be dead, We would have to leave early of our work, and started to ball up all. After much thinking, We decided to fly up to the edge (Thanks to a beautiful air promotion) and from there catch a car to reach Brumadinho. Much more comfortable not?

Now you ask me why we chose Brumadinho? Brumadinho is a municipality in the State of Minas Gerais, with the economy basically focused on iron ore extraction, and that is wonderful 5 minute drive of Inhotim (OK google says are 10 min but is closer than that). The city is quite simple, Some people have told us, the population has not yet developed very far, so the tourist lodgings are simple and do not have many dining options in the city centre. On the road where you reach Cirencester has a few guesthouses and shops selling typical products like candy, cheeses, jams, Peppers…etc…In addition to a couple of furniture stores.

We left Ends in the late afternoon with the GPS on my phone, We arrived at night and so already Fomenting that stopped in the city center the cell phone signal died and we didn't know how to get at the Inn. That's why nowadays super recommend using offline GPS, or at least have one for emergencies as I said in this post I have used the maps.me and has been great. After a long run, We found the Inn.

We chose to stay at the pousada Lafevi, a House with super family environment with a very sick thing type “Grandma”. The owners were super nice, and very attentive. As the Inn only offered breakfast, We went out for dinner and finished in Gourmet Gift.

The next morning we went out early to enjoy the day, bought some bilisquetes at the supermarket on the main street to ensure greater efficiency in our walk by the Museum, In addition to bottles of water. To visit all the Museum with calm we recommend 2 days. So you don't need to run horrors, and still spare a little time to do other things on the second day, as was our case.

Legend has it that Inhotim was a farm belonging to a mining company and the responsible was a British guy named Timothy. By Mr agglutination, turned "nhô" who joined the reduction of Timothy "Tim" and became "Inho – Tim ", cute is not? In the old days it was common for the farm being called "Nhô". To see how this expression was something strong brother of my great-grandmother (take into consideration that my grandmother has 100 years) was known even in the family as "Nhôzinho" because he was the son of "Nhô" – Lord of the farm.

In the years 80 Bernardo Peace bought a part of the area of Inhotim, He was enchanted by a Monkfish, Centennial tree planted by former owner, and his admiration increased even more when he met Burle Max, famous landscaper, He later sponsored garden projects for the Inhotim space. Bernardo already collected art focused on the Brazilian modernism, but it was only in 1990 that Tunga (artist who has a gallery dedicated to his work in Inhotim) convinced him to start collecting contemporary works, and since then no longer sees grace in acquiring only screens. As his collection grew Bernardo was buying all the land neighbors who can, currently Inhotim has 96,87 acres. The Museum project began in 2004 and in 2006 Inhotim opened its doors to the general public. In 2008 was recognised as a Civil society organization of public interest (OSCIP) the Government of Minas Gerais and the following year by the Federal Government. Inhotim beyond Museum in 2010 won the title of Botanical Garden, There you can admire more than 5.000 World flora species.

Get there early! The parking lot is huge, It fills with a surprising speed. To help organize it's good to keep in mind that the Museum does not open on Mondays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days cheaper, Wednesday is for free. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays are days more expensive.

Inhotim offers (upon payment, of course) an electric cart to go to more distant attractions or with steepest climbs. There are two types of rent: a with pre-established routes, as if they were small buses where you dip in and out of the stands at certain points, you pay around $ 25 (p/person); and other than the driver takes you everywhere and is available by the day (R$480) or per hour (R$160 p/hour), the cart fit 5 persons . How to get paid a day's pay recommended trying to do the most distant in one day. Of rest, If you can walk the walk, It's all very beautiful and deserves to be enjoyed with calm!

From the moment it entered, the first temptation that appears are the little shops, the intern's books, bags, pencil, etc… (I found everything very expensive) and the gift shop which is the foreign doom MASTER, has ceramic for all tastes, little boxes, flower vases… plants… aiai… said I'm in souvenirs shop! It's crazy, my purchased items at the end of the tour (because I didn't want to be walking with weight) were those below. Were not super cheap but being craft fair.

After babar the items in the store, We set out to meet the galleries. You can't put everything in the post but let's talk a little bit of you love and show some photos of the amazing gardens of Inhotim!

You can also explore the “Garden from all directions” It has various plants, medicinal and poisonous, for you know their real names and their properties. I was shocked that the mere maria-without-shame or vinca is poisonous (If ingested)!

The numerous banks scattered Inhotim are made of tree trunks that have died and are found in the Woods. After you are treated and cut so we could enjoy and rest your legs. I think this first is the largest that has!

The walls of the shed Cardiff & Miller are lined with fiberglass, so, don't touch, many people are allergic. There you can sit on chairs and listen to the installation. I liked it very much, the shed is enormeee and the super cool installation.

One of the swimming pools / facilities you can get in Inhotim, There's even a bathroom next door to change. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not bringing a bathing suit then joined up to where the pants raised even.

The work The origin of the work of art, of Marilá Dardot leave all that neither child hunting pieces across the lawn to form words and photograph. Impossible to resist.

I think that the Beam Drop Inhotim, Chris Bruden is my favorite work from there. Found super giant and visual, and when you discover the story behind… I love the stories behind works of art. They dug a huge hole, filled with concrete and began with the help of a crane to play well from the high iron beams. Is sensational!!

just beautiful more
simply beautiful too

The Cosmococa of Hélio Oiticica is one of the galleries with greater interaction in Inhotim. There, through the rooms you can have the “sensations” that would be on the use of cocaine, is very interesting. Within the Cosmococa that's where another pool you can enter, This felt a little dirty little boy so don't even put your foot.

The Sonic Pavilon or better known as Sound of Earth, Doug Aitken is one of the more distant works at the Museum. Go to the cart! (or spend a lot of leg). A hole of more than 200 m deep with microphones and sound amplification devices where you can sit in the gallery and enjoy the sound that the Earth emits.

If you went to the Inhotim and not take a picture in the Viewing Machine of Olafur Eliasson the Inhotim. In the style of our child Kaleidoscópios is a full plate to take artistic photos with many copies your.

Without doubt the most photographed of Inhotim, Oiticica's work draws attention by the vibrant colors and size. A work like that in contrast with this blue sky mine can do no wrong in the picture.

You think this House has nothing more beyond the mirrored walls? Give an entry and discover that sensational is the combination of the projections with mirrors, you get kind of Dizzy, It is very beautiful.

For sure (in my opinion) the most beautiful building of Inhotim. The Gallery is a show of architecture! Inside would be no different: the gigantic tiles of Adriana Varejao are fascinating for the numerous shades of blue that cover the white pieces illustrating waves.

I promise to kill! It was the last work we saw as it took to find her. The beautiful spheres of Narcisus Garden of Yayoi Kusama. For those who don't know the Yayoi suffers from a certain compulsion by polka dots.

Some galleries you can't photograph (or does not) then just at will, But what counts is to go there to experience each of the facilities and keep the memories with you. Inhotim is a ride for all ages, and even if you don't short art, go! It's a lovely walk.

Restaurants in Inhotim

Inhotim offers a few restaurant options, has for all tastes from snack bars (open at 9:30) with hot dog and ice lolly, the carvery restaurants. Try to arrange to eat EARLY (they open at noon), because after the queues are Giants and you run the risk of getting the "xepa".

We ate at Oiticica's Restaurant because that's what I had the smallest queue, and had a pretty cool price. When we went there service Was the kilo, writing this post I discovered it now has special and costs R$22 per person no drinks included.

Another option for those who have more time left to dive in the rotation of the Monkfish Restaurant, R$ 58 days of week and R$ 67 weekend and public holidays. By be caster, time is of the essence, I didn't go but friends that were rip of praise.

Still has the Cafe Theatre for those who have more haste with sandwiches, artisanal breads and cakes.

As I said at the beginning of the text, may end up left a little while after the second day of visit the Inhotim. In our case after visiting all, We decided to go to Belo Horizonte to meet the municipal market, and do a little shopping. No one can resist this market (seriously!).

Last but not least, I want to thank my friend Karina takeoff the Inhotim tickets for us. Even we need face line =)
